Why JQuery?
Why JQuery?
Jquery is a JavaScript Library that helps make the web more interactive. We have seen its use increase tremendously in the past few years. In this post I will try to explain just a few of the reasons why it became so popular.
Before I even begin I would like to mention that there are some other famous JavaScipt libraries such as YUI, DOJO, MOO TOOLS . They are being used. But not as much as Jquery.
Jquery library is also extremely small and fast. Which means that pages load at lightning speeds. Further more it is cross-browser compatible. Certain mobile devices such as IPHONE or IPAD don’t show Flash based websites. Jquery is a great alternative to flash based websites because not only it helps to create web pages that load fast it can help create the necessary interactions and make the site design look much more dynamic than a web page that doesn’t move.
In my opinion the number one reason is the fact that it provides a lot of easy ways to enhance the interaction between the web site and the users. True, Flash used to provide a lot of those interactions but they were not easy to implement. JQuery enables any programmer to create great usability on a web site . Here is a very simple example: Validation of forms and providing graphical hints to end users via Jquery is extremely easy.
The community of Jquery is very strong. I think another very important reason why Jquery dominates the JavaScript library usage is the amount of plug-ins it offers. The richness of it’s plugin base help keep its existing users loyal and attract new users.
