Time to pay respect to “CSS Zen Garden”

CSS Zen Garden  is an online resource all web designers should know about. This site was launched by Dave Shea , a web design guru from Vancouver, Canada back in 2003.  I believe that at the time when the site was launched the main aim was to show the world of designers how powerful CSS was compared to classic table based design. The site itself after 8 years is sure is a living legend. There have been many articles, blog posts , books and even a Wikipedia entry created about this website. But what is so fascinating about this  website is that it is still  able to attract and unite people from each corner of the world after 8 years.

I must admit that when I coincidentally went on the site for the first time couple of years ago I didn’t quite understand what it was all about. Even though the concept is well explained in great detail on the home page I thought it looked boring.  And to be completely honest I quit the page without even trying to understand the concept behind the creation of this site or looking at the at all the great design work of many artists. Only very recently during a video tutorial that I was watching about design I came to understand the power of this site. And what it meant.

The idea of being able to manipulate the design of a static web page via CSS is not what attracts me to this site today. It is mainly to learn from other designers and to get inspired I visit this site. Which I believe is why this site is still so popular today.

If you are looking for a source of inspiration check out http://www.mezzoblue.com/zengarden/alldesigns/ . Make your design live forever by publishing it at css zen garden and sharing with all the web designers from all around the world.

Thank you Dave Shea!
