List 10 Things to check for after your website goes live
Sometimes we, web designers and developers, have a strict deadline to respect so we go live with a site as soon as it matches our clients expectations. There is nothing wrong with this approach. However, web development requires perfection. And for this reason even after a website goes live it may need some fine-tuning to be perfect.
Here is a list of items to check for once your website goes live:
1 ) Re-read the content of your website and make sure it makes sense. Don’t forget to rigorously spell check the text that is on your website.
2 ) Click on all the links and make sure each link / button functions as expected. Check the site for 404 error using automated tools.
3 ) Check to make sure all forms work as expected.
4 ) Optimize the images for load time. So that your website loads faster.
5 ) Make sure that www and non-www versions of your site are the same URL. This could be achieved by pointing the www to non-www or vice versa.
6 ) If you have the capability to enable compression on your web server enable it.
7 ) Check & fix HTML and CSS errors and warnings on your website.
8 ) Apply other optimization techniques to further improve the load speed of your website
9 ) Does your site have all the information ? Can you think of new FAQ? Have you double checked all the info for accuracy? Are the opening hours of your store correct? Is your company name, address and phone number correct? If your website has a CMS go ahead and add more information or fix those issues right away.
10 ) Do you have a blog on your website? It is never to early to start blogging . Is your website connected to Twitter? it is time to tweet. IS your website connected to Facebook? Have you mention your colleagues, friends, family about your facebook page? Now is a good time to get the word out.
The list above is a quick and dirty list. The numbers don’t indicate the order of importance and it is in no way exhaustive.
